
The Department of Pre-University Education (PUE), Karnataka functions under the Department of Primary & Secondary Education, Government of Karnataka. It is the official body that regulates and oversees pre-university education (Class 11 & 12) across the state.
After completing SSLC / Class 10, students in Karnataka join the two-year Pre-University Course (PUC), which serves as the bridge between school and higher education. The department offers three major streams – Science, Commerce and Arts – with multiple subject combinations to suit diverse academic and career goals.
The Department is responsible for:
- Granting recognition to PU colleges across Karnataka.
- Designing and updating the PUC curriculum and syllabus.
- Conducting the PUC examinations for 1st and 2nd year students.
- Publishing results and ensuring academic quality.
- Providing resources and guidance for students preparing for competitive exams such as CET, NEET, JEE, CA Foundation and others.
